TEKİEZ

Halle

TEKİEZ is a place of remembrance and solidarity. Since the right-wing terrorist attack on a synagogue and the KiezDöner snack bar in Halle on the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur on October 9, 2019, brothers Rıfat and İsmet Tekin, two survivors of the attack, together with supporters from civil society, have been fighting to preserve TEKİEZ as a memorial site – at the location of the former KiezDöner snack bar. The site is a special place of remembrance and commemoration for the victims, survivors, and all those affected by right-wing, racist, and anti-Semitic violence.

Goals and tasks:

TEKİEZ is open regularly and serves as a space for meeting and exchange, for mourning and remembrance. It is a place of solidarity and a symbol against racism and anti-Semitism. Among other things, commemorative rallies, readings, exhibitions, panel discussions, artistic interventions, and fundraising campaigns are held here.

The aim is to strengthen and expand alliances of solidarity against the right wing and other forms of extremist violence, as well as to test and establish ideas for an effective and solidarity-based culture of remembrance. The main venue is Berlin. Events also take place in Halle and at one or two other changing locations in Germany.
