The project

Here you will find information on the pilot project, the funding organisation, the team and the Amadeu Antonio Foundation.

Self-determined networking, remembrance & education (German: SVEB)

The pilot project “Self-determined networking, remembrance and education” is aimed at memorial initiatives of survivors and survivors of right-wing extremist, racist, anti-Semitic and antiziganist attacks after 1945.

The project aims to support the efforts and struggles of the initiatives to recognise the crimes, the grievances during the investigation process and the overall social problem of right-wing extremist violence, racism and anti-Semitism as well as structural discrimination.

The local work of eleven initiatives and the networking of the groups with other survivors and survivors of right-wing, racist and anti-Semitic violence are supported. The initiatives are supported primarily through the transfer of financial resources from the budget of the Federal Government Commissioner for Migration, Refugees and Integration, who is also the Federal Government Commissioner for Anti-Racism.

The self-determined work of survivors and survivors of right-wing extremist violence is to be strengthened in the long term by increasing their visibility, carrying out capacity building in line with their needs and promoting their networking. The long-term goal of this structural support is to enable the initiatives to work continuously and sustainably.

About the funding organisation

Information on the project organiser

The Amadeu Antonio Foundation has been supporting survivors of right-wing, racist and anti-Semitic violence for more than twenty years. With the Cura survivors’ fund and the emergency aid fund Berlin gegen Hassgewalt, the foundation provides emergency aid in the form of a wide range of support measures. For example, the AAS covers relocation costs if those affected have to change their place of residence due to hostility. If those affected are threatened or slandered or their property is destroyed, the foundation covers the legal or repair costs and supports them in getting back to their everyday lives. The quick and unbureaucratic support is perceived by many survivors as a relief in the often very painful struggle to be recognised as a survivor of right-wing violence.

In addition to providing financial support, the Amadeu Antonio Foundation has closely supported initiatives over the years, such as the African cultural association Palanca e.V., which emerged from an organisation of Angolan contract workers following the murder of Amadeu Antonio in Eberswalde. The Amadeu Antonio Foundation campaigns for the rights of survivors of right-wing violence with high-profile campaigns and political lobbying for the long-term promotion of survivor counselling centres and improved protection for survivors and those involved.

As a result of this long-standing collaboration with survivors of right-wing, racist and anti-Semitic violence, a team within the foundation is coordinating the project “Self-determined networking, remembrance and education” (SVEB). This team consists of a project manager, a scientific advisor, a financial and administrative advisor, a project administrator and an intern. The tasks of the project team are to implement the project objectives, evaluate the measures, manage and pass on the funds, carry out capacity building and strengthen the network structures – and above all to support the affected initiatives in their self-determined work.
