Soligruppe B. Efe 09

Kassel

The solidarity group B. Efe 09 was founded in early 2023 at Efe's request. His aim was to raise public awareness of the racist attempted murder against him and to advance the fight for justice. This founding was another step in the joint work that had already begun four years earlier, immediately after the attempted murder, through the support of solidarity initiatives and individuals. A defining moment for the formation of the solidarity group B. Efe 09 in 2023 was the nationwide meeting of the solidarity network that brought together relatives, victims, and survivors of right-wing, racist, and anti-Semitic violence from all over Germany. The “09” in the group's name refers to the license plate number of Efe's birthplace, Aydin.

Goals and tasks:

Our demands are clear: truth, reparations, and self-determined remembrance. Since the attempted murder we have been tirelessly fighting for comprehensive truth. It is of central importance that the perpetrator be caught and held accountable. The police must resume their investigations and specifically investigate within the far-right scene in order to ensure this.

Another important focus of our work is dignified, self-determined remembrance that focuses on Efe and his needs. The aim is not to appropriate or exploit his story, but to make his voice and perspective heard as a warning for the present and the future. For this reason, we are campaigning for the erection of a memorial plaque. The attempted murder of Efe is part of a sad series of right-wing violent crimes in Kassel that must not be forgotten. It is essential that the city of Kassel remembers that a life was destroyed because of racist motives – in the middle of this city. This memorial should not only honor the survivor Efe, but also draw attention to the ongoing threat of racism, anti-Semitism, and right-wing terror in our society.

In addition to education and remembrance, we demand appropriate and sustainable compensation for Efe. The existing state reparation structures are not working. We therefore advocate the establishment of a municipal emergency aid fund for victims of right-wing violence, which provides support quickly and without bureaucracy. Adequate financial compensation is a necessary part of a dignified policy of remembrance, which Efe is still entitled to today and which the city of Kassel must urgently implement.

Our joint struggle is not limited to this fight alone. We do not see the racist attempted murder of Efe as an isolated case! Right-wing violence kills in many places in Germany. That is why we are part of a nationwide solidarity network, meet regularly, and travel to memorial days. We know that solidarity requires practical sympathy, support, and empathy.
