Festival of Resilience

Berlin

The Festival of Resilience is an art and culture festival that has been held every year since 2020 in memory of the anti-Semitic, racist, and misogynistic attack in Halle and Wiedersdorf on October 9, 2019—Yom Kippur 5780.

Background to the festival´s founding:

The festival was initiated by the survivors of the attack. It takes place around the anniversary and is rooted in the Jewish idea that mourning should (almost) always be linked to joy, and that from it a productive moment can emerge. Over the past years, the festival has developed into a vibrant mix of cultural, musical and political events – and a party. Each year, it brings together various initiatives from the network of those affected by right-wing violence, as well as other groups, in particular migrant and other initiatives of marginalised people, to exchange perspectives and engage through different media on resilience, remembrance and solidarity.

Goals and tasks:

The aim is to strengthen and expand alliances of solidarity against the far right and other forms of extremist violence, as well as to test and establish ideas for an effective and solidaristic culture of remembrance. The main venue is Berlin. In addition, events are held in Halle and at one or two other changing locations in Germany.
