Bündnis Tag der Solidarität - Kein Schlussstrich

Dortmund

The alliance Tag der Solidarität – Kein Schlussstrich Dortmund has been in existence since 2013. It supports the Kubaşık family in their demands for clarification and consequences. Together with the Kubaşık family, Mehmet Kubaşık is remembered every year on 4 April. He was murdered on 4 April 2006 by the far-right terrorist group National Socialist Underground (NSU). In addition to the commemorative events, readings, film evenings, and panel discussions are organised. Since 2022, the Mehmet Kubaşık Children's Festival has also been held annually on May 5, Mehmet Kubaşık's birthday, in Dortmund.

Goals and tasks:

Supporting the Kubaşık family’s demands for remembrance, truth and accountability forms the core of the alliance’s work. Together with the family, it calls for the release of all NSU files and for answers to the still unresolved questions – particularly regarding the NSU’s support network and the role of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (Germany’s domestic intelligence service). The alliance considers it essential to clearly name institutional racism, to raise awareness about it, and to make the remembrance work of those affected by right-wing violence more visible.

The relatives themselves make a crucial contribution to remembrance and truth-seeking. Mehmet Kubaşık’s daughter, Gamze Kubaşık, works as a political educator, actively fighting racism and publicly sharing her experiences. She speaks in schools, museums, theatres and on panel discussions about the NSU complex and the racist investigation practices of the authorities, in order to raise public awareness of the still powerful structural racism and its deadly consequences.

Together with Semiya Şimşek and other supporters, a staged reading was developed and performed. Discussion events are held with other relatives of victims of right-wing violence.
